One of my goals this year is to be out on the cutting edge in my Property M.O.B. business. What does that mean exactly? Well, there are mentors I admire who always seem to be using the latest in marketing, technology, etc. and I said to myself, “Self, why can’t I be one of those people too?” So, here we are.
In my quest to be “cutting edge” this year, I’ve come across a very useful tool that I wanted to share with you all. It’s called Slack.
Slack is an app/software that acts as a platform for work teams to communicate/collaborate on projects, and overall just get things done more efficiently. In fact, I think their slogan is something like “Slack: get things done” (…or something like that). Anyway, the finer points of their slogan is not the point of this article.
Truth be told, I’ve been using Slack for real estate investing for over a year now, but my team and I have only been using in its most basic capacity-collaborative chat for real estate team communication. We all know the importance of communication in real estate. However, when you get down to it, Slack is way, way, WAY more powerful than that.
So, what’s the point of Slack? Its power comes from its ability to integrate across platforms. For example, if you’re a hardcore Mobster (like myself) you probably operate your wholesaling business using Zoho CRM. Well, guess what?
Slack integrates seamlessly with Zoho. You can find help articles online to aid you in setting this up (maybe we can link to them here), but basically you go into your Zoho setup menu and connect your Slack account to your Zoho account.
Once you do this, you can pull records from Zoho directly into Slack, notify team members of their tasks via Slack, and much more. Here is the link to an article that shows you all the things you can accomplish with your Slack integration: https://www.zoho.com/crm/help/slack.html.
For all you Podio-ers out there, don’t worry. Slack integrates nicely with Podio too. I know, having used Podio myself for a while, however I never really explored those integrations in depth, so you’ll have to do some exploring on your own.
Really, the amount of apps and integrations are seemingly endless, and I could talk about how awesome Slack is for much longer than you would want to read. Slack integrates to a wide variety of apps innately, and that’s just scratching the surface!
Since Slack has grown in popularity, it has become available for a wide variety of functions/integrations through Zapier. Zapier itself is powerful, and there is training to that end within the MOB, but the fact that it can help you link other parts of your business to a central platform like Slack is mind-blowing!
Basically what we did, and what you can do too, is we created a separate channel for each lead type in Slack for our real estate investing. Next, we set up a Zap to notify us as soon as we receive one of those lead notification emails in Gmail. It’s been working great, and keeps things much more efficient and organized!
I’m barely beginning to scratch the surface with this tool. I’ve talked to some other investors that use it to handle things like inspection appointments as well, so I’m excited to see how we can implement that into our business. The possibilities of Slack for real estate agents are endless, and it’s a tool that I highly recommend everyone check out if you’re not using it already. If you find some cool, new way of using Slack for real estate in your business don’t hesitate to share in the MOB Facebook group. I’d love to hear them and try them out myself. Happy hunting, SLACKERS!
