At some point in your real estate career, you’ll wonder how to choose the best real estate mentor.  Most likely, it will be once you’ve learned the basics about the business by reading websites and forums until your eyes bleed and you just can’t put everything together enough to take action. This is very common with new real estate investors.  While the information online is plentiful, it’s challenging to put it all together and make anything happen. You’re probably going to need a mentor to guide you through the process a few times and help you transition into the business world smoothly and successfully.

While the business models may be similar, everyone runs and manages their businesses completely different. This is why it’s important to do your diligence if you’re ready to choose a real estate mentor.  Here’s a few tips on how to choose the best real estate mentor for you:

  • Follow several mentors through social media and study their belief system.  There’s so many people out there right now trying to be mentors, and it’s hard to decide which one is legitimate.  Most of them have no idea what they’re doing and are full of hot air or giving out some really bad (even illegal) advice!  If you follow the practices of several mentors online, they will eventually weed themselves out.  Someone who is truly knowledgable about the business will offer plenty of information for free, and not just try to rush you into their coaching program. Something else I’ve noticed about mentors is that they’re not always flashing pictures of checks, but offering valuable content that can be used and implemented. Here’s what Property M.O.B. Believes in.
  • Check Out Reviews and Testimonials of every Mentor that you’re considering. People can say anything they want about themselves, but when it come to their customers, clients, and students, their voices speak the loudest.   Always do your research before you invest in a mentor and see what other people are saying about this person before you make a decision. • LOVE the style of your mentor. When you decide on a mentor, you’ll be working with this person for months. Be sure that you love their style, their attitude, their business model, and their lifestyle.  If you watch their videos or read their blog posts and are bored to tears, chances are that you’ll cry if you hire them as your mentor.  On the other hand, if your mentor excites you and drives you to become better in your business, then this is a good choice for you!
  • Make sure that your mentor has years of experience.  The only thing that can truly develop expertise in a person is time and experience.  A true real estate mentor will have at least 10 years of experience in their niche, and have experienced everything there is during their time in the business. This is what makes them a true mentor.  They’re able to help you navigate quickly through the snags and challenges that every business will face.

Hiring a real estate mentor can mean the difference between never closing a deal, or getting to the closing table in 30 – 60 days.  Having someone on your side to be the voice in your ear and a coach in your corner will be the quantum leap that you need to make everything clear.  Make your choice a good one!
